FLAVOUR PRODUCTIONS
  • EDUARDO
    DE SOUSA
    Director of Photography
He is the eye and the helm of Flavour Productions. He oversees and manages every project and sets the company's strategic course.

Born in 1974 amid the cosmopolitan influences of Lisbon, he soon felt the pull of the moving image. In the early '90s he began drinking, still scalding hot, from the cup of cinematography. Back then, digital production relied on a hand-built box that could only be tamed with a steady hand, a focused mind and plenty of resilience.

With a degree in Economics, he has taught both in that field and at technical film and image schools. Two worlds that rarely meet, and which explain why, at Flavour, every image is born from a strategy.

His greatest strength is seeing the shot before the camera rolls: the light, the framing, the lens, the shadow in just the right place. Then, drawing on years of experience as a director of photography and post-production supervisor, he sculpts every image down to the final colour grade, until the flavour is just right.

    Favourite flavour: vanilla.
    IVO
    MACHADO
    Creative Director
After studying Architectural Design and Communication Design, he went on to a postgraduate degree in Copywriting and, later, another in Political Marketing.

At Publicis Group he worked as a copywriter and art director for Portuguese and international brands such as Renault, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Sanofi-Aventis, Nestlé, Lactogal, Garnier, L'Oréal, VISA, Sogrape and Minipreço.

Tragedy brought him back to the Algarve, but his work in brands, strategy and communication continued as a freelance creative consultant. During this chapter he forged strong ties with Flavour Productions and moved from screenwriter to director.

Former Instagram addict, photography enthusiast, beach tennis genius, cat lover and acclaimed prodigy on the grill.

    MAIKA
    SÁNCHEZ NEGRI

Also known as "mAgiCa", she has a solid background in Labour Relations, complemented by a postgraduate specialisation in Tax Advisory. She has a long track record in commercial relations in the banking sector, where she proved her ability to build trust and deliver results.

She also worked at Huelva City Council, where she excelled in administration and customer service.

A smiling Andalusian, methodical and an excellent communicator, she is committed to achieving exceptional results in everything she does.

She is a trained sommelier with a self-confessed passion for wine and Italian food. If the meeting ends in dinner, you know who's choosing the wine.

    Favourite flavour: salted.
    TITO
    DA COSTA
    Film Director
A native of Lisbon, Tito da Costa was born in 1970. In 2002 he enrolled in the Filmmaking programme at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.

At Universal Studios, his first work of fiction did not go unnoticed. He received support from the academy and from Panavision to make two more short films during the course, and was the only student chosen to shoot with Adam Bidle.

In California he developed a special relationship with Digital Film Tree and was invited to serve as technical consultant on the book "Final Cut Pro Advanced Color Correction and SFX", published by Peachpit.

Tito is believed to be the first Portuguese filmmaker to produce a film in Hollywood: "Road to Red", co-written with Larry Leahy.

Off set, he swaps the clapperboard for a helmet, and the open road is his favourite long take.

    Favourite flavour: cinnamon.
    RUI SUSTELO
    SANTOS
    3D Modeller and Animator
In the early '90s he embraced a newborn discipline, 3D animation. It was with Lightwave 3D, running on his Commodore Amiga, that he set out on a long journey through this new form of artistic expression, as exciting as it was promising.

In 1995 director Norberto Nunes invited him to join Nova Imagem, and he traded his university degree for the wisdom of the legendary Virgílio Ferreira, who taught him animation in Softimage 3D.

His five years at Nova Imagem gave him the privilege of producing a huge quantity and variety of digital effects, while sharing knowledge with a collective of talented, tireless creative virtuosos.

In 2002 he began collaborating actively with Flavour, and in 2009 he founded his own company, where every day he does what he loves most: creating and animating in 3D.

    Favourite flavour: chocolate.
    COLIN
    JAMES SMITH
    Specialist Consultant
A civil engineering graduate, he started out in technical drawing. The early days of 3D CAD opened the door to many other 3D modelling, rendering and animation packages.

A long-standing interest in photography and video led him to join Flavour Productions as a founding member in 2000. There, in the boiling cauldron of a production house workload, he deepened and broadened his knowledge.

In 2003 he moved back to Scotland, and Colin's interests turned to developing specialised time-lapse photography techniques and matte painting, using 2D and 3D methods.

He has also taken on roles in project development and technical management, film conception and storyboard development.

    Favourite flavour: cinnamon.
